A plastic packaging free zone
Old Pulteney Distillery in the far northerly town of Wick produces single malt with a dash of oiliness, and almost the tiniest hint of peat. Hence the name "The Maritime Malt" as it has hints of the sea about it. Distilled in 2004, this Spanish oak sherry single cask was selected by our sister shop Royal Mile Whiskies for those oily notes, mixed in with sherry and toffee notes.
Staff Tasting Notes Nose : This is undeniably coastal- brine and sea salt notes alongside raw toffee mixture, walnuts and oranges. Cloves and spice arrive after some water. Palate : Elegant fruits, citrus peel and a slight pithy character. Salt and treacle followed by chocolate orange. Finish : Raisins, sweet with burnt port belly and cracked toffee. Seaside notes perserve after some while and aniseed and liquorice emerges after a touch of water.
